Saturday Afternoon – Asheville

I’ve been doing some traveling for work this week.  I’m always glad for the change of perspective, but so completely happy to be back in the mountains. It was a gorgeous late afternoon to be back with the family. Looking around on a typical Saturday afternoon in Asheville it’s not hard to see why I love it here!

LAAFF 2012

Hey folks!  Here’s shots from this years Lexington Ave. Arts and Fun Fair. Honestly, I wish I could have stayed longer and taken more but had an event schedule for that evening and had to be satisfied with a fun but brief pass through the festivities.  More pictures up on my Facebook page: LAAFF 2012

AND if you loved LAAFF this year consider making a donation to keep the LAAFFs coming. Click here to donate directly to Arts2People, the non-profit that organizes LAAFF every year. It takes a community to keep the fun times rolling.

The Big Crafty 2012

Pack Square and the Asheville Art Museum were the sites of the 3rd Annual Big Crafty event with over 150 independent crafters from all over the region.  So much fun to shop among all of these great artists and say hi to friends.  If you missed it though, don’t be sad, there will be another indoor one this October.  Check out more pictures on CLicKs facebook page.

Big Love 2012

Lots of awesome Asheville love to be found all over the 2nd Big Love Festival downtown last weekend.  I didn’t vend this year which left me more time to actually participate.  Got to see the Critters and the Moodees, both great but very different local bands.  Caught up with a bunch of beautiful folks and friends and had my mind blown checking out the creative talent that lives and works here in town.

Lots more pictures up on the CLicKs Facebook Page.

Primed: Asheville Art Museum

Lots of new white space for the Asheville Art Museum‘s new face.  The AAM hosted a “white tie” gala opening for their interim exhibition, Primed, on March 23.  The evening included the City of Asheville’s Easel Rider Mobile Art Lab out front and inside doing magnetic LED light throw projects (fun!), body painted models and living statuary (also fun!) a “light grafitti” room, live painting with Makasi Siriwayo, music, and dancing (fun, fun, fun).  The expanded showcase areas feature new exhibits from Gabriel Schaffer, Hoss Haley, Fire on the Mountain glass blowers, as well as a colorful new Children’s Art Playce and new exhibits from the museum’s permanent collection (all amazing).

N. Market St. – Puck Face Glyph

I was cutting through a parking lot between N. Market and Broadway downtown one evening when this glyph caught my eye, winking back at me out of the darkness and changing its expression with the street lights.   [Click an image to enlarge]

The Critters EP Release at AHA AVL

Local, acid-rock group The Critters held their EP release show for “Visions of Light” at AHA AVL on Wednesday night, presented by the Moog Sound Lab.  AHA AVL is a monthly, invitation only concert series that showcases Asheville’s local bands who are given access to top of the line Moog equipment for the show.

The Critters poured it on to a packed house for over an hour with several encores – although that may have been because it was so crowded they couldn’t get off the stage.  Moog does A/V recordings of these shows and posts them on their website and you tube so keep an eye out for updated videos to be up soon or catch them live this Friday (1//20/12) at the Bobo Gallery.

I Brake for Chocolate. . .

. . .as long as it’s in front of the French Broad Chocolate Lounge!

I took the girls out for an afternoon cuppa of real hot chocolate this week and it certainly did the trick of turning a nasty rainy day into something to smile about!  They each had a plain hot chocolate but I had the Cayenne & Cinnamon which is sweet, spicy and completely delicious! It was a small, yet excellent, luxury to sit with my daughters in this cozy space, listen to them talk about their day, drink the most magical of concoctions and dream about what we will order the next time we return.

Moog’s AHA AVL: Kovacs and the Polar Bear

My first venture down to the Moog Museum/Factory tonight to catch Kovacs and the Polar Bear as the Moog AHA AVL feature band. Fantastic new venue, super terrific band, awesome sound, what’s not to love!?!  Click here to see video from the show on you tube.

LAAFF – Day 2

What a great way to wring the last few drops of fun out of the summer!  The LAAFF festival is still going strong this afternoon in spite of a few sprinkles.  Beautiful local art is everywhere for you to watch, participate with and take home a piece of it with you.  Check out more CLicKs pics from the day here: LAAFF Day 2 Gallery
